A deload is a planned easy week — same movements, roughly half the weight or volume. It feels wrong. That's how you know it's working.

Training accumulates two things: fitness and fatigue. Fatigue masks fitness — you can be getting stronger while feeling worse. A deload lets fatigue drain away so the fitness underneath shows up. Lifters routinely hit PRs the week after one.

When to deload

Every 4–8 weeks, or when weights feel heavier than they should for no reason, sleep gets restless, and motivation dips. That's not weakness — that's data.

Skipping deloads doesn't make you tough; it makes you plateaued. The strongest lifters you know all do this.

Yuki's takeaway

You don't get weaker by resting a week. You finally let yourself get stronger.
